About the Loo of the Year Awards?

The Loo of the Year Awards have been rewarding the very best of washrooms throughout the UK since 1987. Recognising the need for ‘away from home’ washrooms to be of the highest standard in terms of accessibility, hygiene, repair, and facilities the Loo of the Year Award is now the established benchmark of washroom provision and compliance with national standards.

About

The Awards are owned and run independently and since their introduction in 1987 the annual Loo of the Year Awards competition has strived to focus the spotlight on recognising and rewarding the very best washrooms throughout the UK and Ireland. It is considered the ‘washroom standard’ and a Loo of the Year Award is an established benchmark of washroom provision and compliance to national standards.

Any type of ‘away from home’ (not residential) washroom can be nominated and or entered in the Awards in any of the sixty-one separate entry categories covering fifteen market sectors listed on the Entry Form. Entries are accepted from anywhere in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Isle of Man, and the Channel Islands.

Anyone can nominate - staff, customers, visitors, managers, owners or contractors. Entries need to be authorised by owners or managers to guarantee payment of relevant entry fees which cover the inspection visit(s) etc.

Each entry is fully assessed against established judging criteria, covering both male and female facilities, as well as any baby changing, accessible, Changing Places, Space to Change or Hygiene Room facilities. All entries will receive a grading; Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Platinum Plus or Diamond following an unannounced visit by a fully trained and authorised Loo of the Year Awards Inspector.

The Washroom Cleaner of the Year Awards form part of the annual Loo of the Year Awards but relate specifically to the cleaning staff that looks after facilities, rather than the washrooms themselves. All cleaning staff seen during an inspection visit will automatically be entered for a Washroom Cleaner of the Year Award. Entrants are encouraged to declare as ‘attended toilets’ on the Entry Form.

National and UK/Ireland Awards are presented at a prestigious and fun daytime Presentation Event at the beginning in December each year.  In addition to presentation of the Awards there will be a sparkling wine reception, four course lunch with wine, supplier exhibition, after lunch cabaret by a top class entertainer and unrivalled networking opportunities.

The next Event to celebrate the Loo Of The Year Awards 2023 will be on Thursday 18th January 2024
